Harvest is Just Around the Corner...
August is an exciting month in the vineyards. Harvest is just around the corner and the grapes are finally starting to change color on the vine. This change in color is called veraison, a French term that marks the grape’s transition from the growth stage to the ripening stage. From now until harvest, the grapes will increase in volume, weight and sugar content. If the grapes are red wine grapes, they will change from a bright green to a deep reddish-blue color. If the grapes are white wine grapes, they turn a golden, translucent color. It’s a good time to take a walk through the vineyards. The grape clusters will be a pretty mix of deep red and bright green as they change color.
